Harding University faculty receive awards for teacher achievement | Arkansas’ Independent Colleges

Eight Harding University faculty members received Teacher Achievement Awards during the annual faculty and staff recognition dinner on campus April 19.

Faculty members Scott Carrell, Wendy Ellis, Denise Fisher, Steven Frye, Cheryl Lee, Randall McLeod, Don Meredith and Nathan Mills are the 2012-13 award recipients.

Carrell is an associate professor in the College of Arts and Humanities. He has been a member of the faculty since 1999. He holds a Bachelor of Music in piano and a Bachelor of Arts in computer science from Southwestern University, a Master of Music in piano performance from University of Illinois at Urbana-Campaign, and a Doctor of Musical Arts in piano performance from University of North Texas at Denton.

Ellis is an associate professor in the Cannon-Clary College of Education. She has been a member of the faculty since 2005. She holds a Bachelor of Science in elementary education from Arkansas State University in Jonesboro, a Master of Education in reading from University of Arkansas at Little Rock, and a Doctor of Education from University of Memphis.

Fisher joined the Harding faculty in 2005 and is an assistant professor of family and consumer science in the College of Sciences. She holds a Bachelor of Science in home economics education from Harding, a Master of Education in secondary education with an emphasis in family and consumer sciences from Harding, and a Ph.D. in family and consumer sciences from Iowa State University.

Frye is a professor in the College of Arts and Humanities and has been a member of the faculty since 1989. He holds a Bachelor of Arts in communication from Freed-Hardeman University, a Master of Arts in communication from University of Memphis, and a Doctor of Education in higher education from University of Arkansas.

Lee is an associate professor of communication in the Carr College of Nursing. She has been a faculty member since 1994. She holds both a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Harding University and a M.N.Sc. from University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences.

McLeod is a professor within the Paul R. Carter College of Business Administration. He joined the University in 1988. He holds a Bachelor of Arts in political science and sociology from University of Memphis and a Juris Doctorate from Memphis State University School of Law.

Meredith is an associate professor in the College of Bible and Ministry. He joined the University in 1968. He holds a bachelor’s degree from Harding, a Master of Theology from Harding School of Theology, and a Master of Science in library sciences from University of North Carolina.

Mills is an associate professor in the College of Sciences and has been a faculty member since 2002. He holds a Bachelor of Science from Harding, a Master of Science from Southwest Missouri State University, and a Doctor of Philosophy from University of Columbia.

Each honoree was presented with a $ 5,000 check and framed certificate commemorating the award.
